Harmony and Counterpoint I is an introduction to the basic melodic, harmonic, and formal practices of classical composition. Regular aural, written, and analytical assignments lead to the composition of a short piece for string quartet at the conclusion of the semester. All students are required to attend weekly piano and sight-singing labs and should have prior experience reading music.
