4.654 Media Theory

“Medium” (pl. media) here designates the means and technologies by which temporal events or imaginary constructs are materially fixed and conveyed for human aesthetic experience. While “medium” can historically refer to a spiritual intercessor, or can designate a curatorial category such as painting (or the viscous pigment-extender known as “medium” to contemporary artists such as Tauba Auerbach, see left) – in this seminar our focus will primarily be on durational media such as film, video, or digital streaming.
