The Studio

The Lightboard studio at MIT is located in 26-069. The studio is intended to be a self-service capture facility for recording short modules of curricular content. The Lightboard studio at MIT consists of three main components:

The Lightboard (a lighted glass pane)
A video and audio capture system
A video workstation running Wirecast to assist in the capture and distribution workflow

Location

The primary Lightboard studio is located in the basement of Building 26 on campus.

Note: Currently there is a 2nd Lightboard studio on campus located in 66-000A (Building 66). The reservation process is the same for both studios (see gray box below). While the content in this training is based on the specific setup of the of the main studio in 26-069, a Lightboard user would follow the same general process for recording a video in the Building 66 studio.

To use the Lightboard studio, check the room calendar and send a reservation request to lightboard_reservations@mit.edu.

Main Contacts

Jim Cain is a Senior Educational Technology Consultant on the Residential Education team at MIT Open Learning and serves as a resource for the technical aspects of Lightboard at MIT. Jim can help with in-studio training and best practices with regard to planning, presentation, and experimentation with Lightboard, as well as scheduling studio time.

Aaron Kessler is Associate Director, Learning Sciences and Teaching on the Residential Education team at MIT Open Learning and serves as a resource for the pedagogical aspects of Lightboard at MIT.
