Int'l Real Estate Transactions
Driven by international capital flows, international transactional activity has increasingly become an essential aspect of contemporary real estate investing. This course aims to build upon students’ previous real estate coursework in finance, capital markets, ventures, and development and applies the key concepts studied therein to international real estate transactions that involve varied geographies (and investors) and will aim to address a range of issues related to a variety of unique transactional dynamics. Value investing in international real estate will also be assessed. This course has been structured for flexibility and will focus on discussion-based learning from a multidisciplinary standpoint. Each discussion session is unique in its narrative and assessment. The emphasis of the course is less on the continuity of themes from one session to the next, rather it is more on the richness of critical inquiry into a variety of global real estate transactional situations that may or may not follow inter-related pedagogical themes yet offer unique analytical dynamics and frameworks of analysis. Students can hope to further their intellectual competency in the critical assessment of complex real estate development and investment transactions, predominantly in the international context. Students who are primarily interested in US domestic real estate transactions are also likely to find this course quite useful because it will contextualize and overlay the international dynamics of real estate transactional decision-making frameworks broadly upon all real estate investment decisions, including upon domestic US based real estate transactions.
