24.251: Introduction to Philosophy of Language

The flourishing of philosophical analyses of language in the 20th Century was driven by the provocative thought that progress on philosophical problems could be made via the rigorous analysis of language. In this course, we will explore the roots of analytic philosophy of language and see how they laid the foundation for the formal theories of language employed by philosophers, linguists, and computer scientists today.
