SPOTIFY PLAYLIST OF FALL REPERTOIRE
This fall, the MIT Concert Choir will present the East Coast premiere of The Listeners by Pulitzer-Prize and GRAMMY®-award winning composer Caroline Shaw. This work for chorus, orchestra, and vocal soloists is a response to Carl Sagan’s Golden Record, launched into space within a NASA Voyager probe in 1977. The Listener’s libretto spans five centuries of poetry in Engish as well as recorded excerpts from the record as well a speech by Sagan. The Concert Choir will also present Baroque gems by Handel, Purcell, and Zelenka.
Next spring, the Concert Choir will join forces with the Harvard Choruses and Orchestra in a performance of the Verdi Requiem at Kresge Auditorium on Saturday, April 29 and Harvard's Sanders Theatre on Sunday, April 30.
The MIT Concert Choir is a large choral group open by audition to both graduate and undergraduate students, and to members of the MIT community. The Concert Choir is a social, academic, and musical ensemble in which students learn and perform major works from the standard repertoire, as well as selected shorter and lesser-known pieces.
Basic vocal technique, diction, and music reading skills are a part of every rehearsal. Rehearsals culminate in a public performance each semester that is often accompanied by a professional orchestra and soloists. When appropriate, student soloists are also featured. You can find a more detailed history of MIT's Concert Choir here.
