Evaluation

Homework assignment

  • One problem set after the Views modules. The problem set will involve using Python to build and analyze simple neural networks.

Midterm presentation

  • One 10-min presentation per student on a principle of their choice. Students need to give a short presentation on a principle, describing it in a structure similar to the lectures. Can go deeper on a principle covered in lectures, or about a new principle. 

Final project and essay

  • A team-based mini project and essay. The mini-project should seek to elucidate with computational examples what a principle is and how it may be beneficial. The accompanying essay (2-page) should summarize results from the mini project. Each team can have 2-3 people.

Grading

Grades are not matched to a specific curve in this subject. If everyone in the class does well, everyone can get an A. Grades will be assigned based on your overall, weighted class average using the weighting scheme presented below:

Discussion in class: 20%

Homework assignment: 20%

Midterm exam: 30%

Final exam: 30%
